Finally, my Mug Display!

I am a garage saling lover, but since we moved to TX in June, I have stopped at only a handful. After the big move, then the birth of our 3rd child, and everything there is to adjust to in the life of my husband's medical residency... I haven't had the energy or time to do my routine saling around town.  With that said, this past Friday morning, I finally made a route of some sales that sounded good, made the 30 minute drive, and hit the jack-pot! I only planned on going to two, but on the way to those, I passed a gorgeous entrance to an unbelievable neighborhood, which had a huge banner for an "Anual Neighborhood Sale TODAY! 50+ homes!"  Well, there was no way, no how I was passing that up, so my morning turned into a half day event. It was a blast, and I found an abundance of treasures, from furniture, to yard work material, to framed art, to vintage decor - I filled our Toyota Highlander to the brim  :) The best part? I only spent $87 on an amount of goodies that would be at least $300 or more in a consignment shop... I love me a stealin' deal!

One of the many items I found was a ladder that originally paired with a child's bunk-bed. The owner said to name a price, so I offered $2... sold!  What I had in mind for it was a DIY project that I've been wanting to do for a long time, a few years actually.

I have thought that it would be cool to display my mugs in an artsy way, instead of being in a cupboard like usual. So now that I got this handy dandy ladder, it's been put to good use!

Between the ladder, this recycled rope that I bought off FAB.com,

these S hooks and ceiling hooks from Lowe's,

my husband and I managed to whip up this cool "Pot rack" style display for our mugs!

I love how it turned out!

All in all, it cost about $20 to make

So, if you eventually start seeing mugs displayed like this, it was my idea,  haha  ;)

Thanks for checkin' it out, have a happy day!

The Cake Stand Facelift

Hello there. It's been too long since my last post. It was a busy last 10 days or so... our garage sale last weekend went marvy, made $150, then boxed up the left-overs and dropped off at Salvation Army. Felt SO good to get rid of all our unused and unloved items!  Dove-tailing with my last post, this past garage sale was our third in one year, and our profit from all three combined has been $1000 - yay! Best part about that is that most of what I sold I had originally bought for really cheap, so really, maybe not even a loss in finances? I could, but I'm not going to do the math to figure it out... too lazy...  ;)

Anyway, well all that to say that I'm getting around to more home decor projects, and here is one of the latest:

I've had this cake stand since Christmas of '05, and I really love it, but the color just hasn't been my thing. But no worries, I've really come to love spray paint... and I mean LOVE!  haha  It can make such a transformation in a piece.

                                                                              before:

I'm not sure if you can tell? One of my top fave's of color is yellow...

here's the after:

I'm lovin' it's new look  :)

We've kept the vintage blocks on the kitchen table for the past 2 weeks now, and it's blown my mind how much of an improvement our children have made in reciting the alphabet, knowing each letter by name, and our 4 year old writes all 26 - I'm so proud of them! All this headway came after we put the bowl of blocks on the table, and during every meal the kid's will play with and say the letters back and forth to each other... such a blessing to watch them interact and learn as a team!

Another Garage Sale

It's been a crazy week to say the least. We are having a blast prepping for our third garage sale in less than a year... yes, our third. Of course, it's mostly my stuff, surprise surprise. The cool part is that it's not junk that I've bought in the past year, it's alot of stuff that we've had throughout the past 6 years of marriage, and I'm finally getting my act together, facing my problem of being an Up-and-Coming Hoarder(haha), and doing something about it. Oh how marvelous it feels to purge unneeded items from your home!

As I was searching online for free printable's for my "Home" binder, I ran across this nifty sheet

It helps me keep my mind on track and not get overwhelmed as we  prepare for the big sale day.
The website is OrganizedHome.com, and I'm loving it! It has a ton of simple, free printable home organization lists to choose from.

If you are wanting to start in on organizing your home, I would highly recommend this website!

Also, if you have any tips on what you do to keep your house in order, please share, I enjoy gleaning from other's success  :)

My Personal Interior Designer

Speaking of interior design, I have had the best interior decorator for the past 12 years. What's funny is that I didn't have to pay a thing to hire Him. His work is free, and His style is seriously the best! The weird part is that when we're working on a project together, He always suggests I change areas of my home that I wouldn't have thought to be a problem area, in fact, I like how I've arranged it. But because He's proven trust-worthy time and time again, and to be honest, never failed at His profession, I will finally give in, trust His judgement on the matter, and allow Him to work His magic. While I'm waiting for the finished project, sometimes I'm still worried and doubtful of how the room's going to turn out.... but then, "Wa - La!" He shows me into the space, and it's the most beautiful I've ever laid eyes on! I ask Him, "How did you know I loved that color for the walls, I didn't even tell you? And those curtains, they're perfect! Where did you find that framed art? It all compliments each other so well! Everything is better than I could have done myself.....  Thank you Jesus!"

He designed me, and He designed you. Because of that , he knows your personality, and what you love, what you hate, and what will make you truly happy in this life.
I've tried my way...... fail. I've tried other people's opinion.... fail.  Finally, I've tried what Jesus has for me......  peace of mind, body and soul.

"It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man" Psalm 118:8

"The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in Him. The Lord is good unto them that wait for Him, to the soul that seeketh Him." Lamentations 3:24-25

He loves you more than anything. Give Jesus your heart  :)

Wash Room

After I'm finished with my closet, the laundry room is going to be next on my list - The pic below is not mine, but I thought it was funny! And ours is worse, way worse.

These laundry rooms inspire me, and the one above inspires me even more to keep on working hard at tackling my own "Yikes" about the home!

Adorable wall paper! I love how this room hardly looks like a laundry work space, so decorative

Decals on washing machine are a must :)
Love the pleated skirt under the sink too

I love rolled towels, they look so neat and tidy

This is a huge area, so wish I had the square feet

Such a great mud room, love how big and bright it is

You can't ever go wrong with yellow, always a fave of mine

My laundry room is a walk through space from the garage and very small. So I've got to keep the wall colors bright, and store items from floor to ceiling if possible. Make use of the walls so that we have a clear place to walk. Not an ideal set up, but so thankful that I now have my own, instead of sharing a basement laundry in a duplex  :)

My Bedroom Closet

A bedroom closet isn't normally a room in the house that you decorate. It's the place that no visitor sees, so why in the world would you bother making it look presentable? Let alone pretty.

Last week, I was standing inside my closet, and realized, "I hate this room". Because of my procrastination and laziness, I allowed it to become hideous....  I'm sure there's no one else out there that hates their closet? ................right  ;)

Here's what it looked like for the past 10 months.

                                                                        BEFORE

A mix of boxes overflowing with clothes and shoes; and on one end, random decorations that didn't have a home yet....

That mess got old, so last week I removed everything, purged a ton of items for our up-coming garage sale, and returned the kept items to the closet.

AFTER

After seeing the results of a little effort, I'm excited to do more!

Instead of being in a shoe box on the bathroom counter, the jewelry received a pretty home on display

At the moment, I'm contemplating a paint color for the walls. Yes, even in a closet. I mean, why not enjoy every space in your home?!

Can't wait to make the finishing touches this week!
